spn_summer_art community. The only requirement the artworks had to meet to be submitted in the comm was they had to be Supernatural fan arts (no RPS) and be visibly related to summer. Gen and/or Slash is allowed as long as it is safe for work. I submitted three arts, one of Sam and Dean, one of Dean and Castiel and one of Young!Dean.

A little step by step gif?
Yep! Here's a gif with the different steps of Artwork #1 I did the line work in Manga Studio. I started by applying a texture and worked a lot with the gradient tool. Then some shadows and highlights and..it's over!
Voilà!

Date: 2011-07-03 06:53 pm (UTC)The shirt was actually the starting point. I wanted to use the prompt picture in my art but I didn't know if I was gonna put it on a board, a poster, etc.. Finally I thought about a Tshirt ^^ Don't ask me why I thought it was much more Sam's style.
Now I am going to go have dirty thoughts about Dean's mouth dripping juice and Sam's response to that. ;)
I tried not to draw too many water drops on the corner of his mouth to prevent people from having dirty thoughts but I failed ^o^ You are the 3rd or 4th comment telling me about the juice dripping from Dean's mouth xD

I must admit I cheated for the background. I didn't draw it, I found it in an anime website and reworked it (a lot)
I'm gonna submit a second art but I think you already saw it, it's Dean and Castiel in vacations ^^

PS: I saw Xmen first class on Friday. I am maybe reading too many slash fics but when I saw the movie I had the feeling to read a big Eric/Charles fic. The subtext is very..visible :D

You are the 5th "peach craving" of the post ^^ People are really going to hate me for that ^^;;
I love explaining how I reach the final result. That's why I opened a LJ in the first place. I couldn't post tutorials on DA. I did it on Tumblr once or twice but it's not convenient so when I have to explain something in details I do it on LJ. However I'm not sure I'm gonna have the time to do it for the Big Bang :/ I hope to be on time but it's really hard ><

The EX version has a big asset compared to the debut version (I didn't know it when I bought the Debut version). You can create 3D models on a 3D software like "Google sketch up" and include the 3D image in your manga studio document by resizing it, rotating it, etc. It means that for instance, you don't have to redraw the set on each panel! ^^ If it's not clear, look at this comic drawn by made-of-tin:

She didn't "draw" the set in every frame. She create it once in a 3D software, imported the document in MS, made the set rotate according to the angle (= perspective) of the scene and..voilà! Of course, it doesn't change her great talent as an artist but the possibility of using 3D models in MS is amazing. The Ex version is more expensive. If it's just for inking the debut version is more than enough but if you want to use it for a more sophisticated comic, the EX is better :D
