Fan arts: J2_everafter Arts - Sleeping Beauty

What's the concept?
My arts for the
j2_everafter challenge inspired by Sleeping Beauty. It's schmoopy as hell but as it's an adaptation of the Disney's movie it had to be schmoopy, I guess!!
THE ARTS

(Click on the title of the pictures to full size)
Warnings: Jared bare-chested on the first picture, Jensen bare-chested on the second, boys almost kissing on the third. I let you judge if it's SFW or not!
1) Sleeping Beauty (main art)
Where Jared is a "damsel in distress"with big muscles awaken by a kiss from his prince charming, Jensen.
~ ~
2) 100 years (B&W sketch)
B&W sketch: Where Jensen is a prince waiting for Jared to wake him up.
3) Happily ever afters (color sketch)
Where Jared and Jensen will live happily ever after(in a pinkinsh castle)
***
I don't understand. Why are there arts with Jared as the "Sleeping Beauty" and arts with Jensen as the "Sleeping Beauty"? ಠ_ಠ
It's because I really couldn't make up my mind. I knew when I signed up for this
j2_everafter challenge that I absolutely wanted to grab Sleeping Beauty as a prompt but it took me time to figure out who was going to "play the role" of Aurora. I finally decided that it would be Jared, that's why only Art#1 is a finished, elaborate, CG painting, in full colors with all the details. Arts n#2 and n#3 on the other hand are just sketches/speed-paintings I did to give me an idea. Jensen as the "cute little blonde prince" waiting for Jared didn't really appeal to me so Arts #2 and 3 never passed the stages of drafts.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE (and a little bit of Photoshop rambling)
ART 1
- Photoshop CS
- Painter Essential 3
An inspiration for this one?
Absolutely. The series of photos taken by Annie Leibovitz for her Disney Fairy Tales series and more particularly the one featuring Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. I loved the set, the general atmosphere and Zach's blue velvet prince outfit so I used it as an inspiration for my main Sleeping Beauty art.

Paint over?
I painted over a part of the set because I was lacking time and certainly also because the perspective of drawing 25 roses scared the hell out of me.
The letter "J" on the pillow comes from an illumination manuscript.

Reference pictures: Jared.
ART 2
- Photoshop CS
- Photography: the spinning wheel, the Kodak film frame and the set
- Non original work: Painting by Louys Aernoutsz Elsevier
Paint over?
I didn't paint over, I used directly photographies for the spinning wheel and the set (by using layers set to "Soft Light" and "Overlay" with an opacity of approximately 30%). This picture was basically my first draft for this project that's why I didn't bother to draw the set or even go for a paint over. I just needed to see roughly what the finished illustration would look like (I didn't even draw Jared!). I speed-painted Jensen using only black and white. This technique that I already used for instance in one my Dean/Castiel arts, Bloodplay, and in Life made me this way (an hilarious prompt for
spn_kink_art inspired by Lady Gaga) gives me the possibility to work very fast (4-5 hours per art), directly in Photoshop, without the need to pay too much attention to tiny details or to draw a detailed pencil sketch.

Reference picture: Jensen
ART 3
- Graphite on paper
- Photoshop CS
- Painter Essential 3
Reference pictures: Jensen, Jared
The castle you can see at the back comes from a personal photo taken...at Disney Land Tokyo
Voilà! I hope you enjoyed my version of Sleeping Beauty.
See you soon.
PS: I am VERY late concerning comments you left me in this account. It also includes comments at
hoodie_time and
spn_kink_art comms. I am SORRY!! (and I am working on it!!)

Date: 2011-02-24 12:16 pm (UTC)The second piece, though, ohhh my god. That's my favourite. I have a huge kink for white shirts on a guy, especially unbuttoned, or sleeves rolled up to their elbows. I also adore pics of guys in black and white. And you did all three, like you can read minds or something! The flow of it is fantastic - it just looks really dreamy which is perfect, given the subject of it.
Stunning again, hon. You never fail to leave me flailing! -hugs-

Date: 2011-02-25 12:58 am (UTC)Oh really, the second one is your favorite? ^^ I didn't spend a lot of time working on it, it was just to have an idea of what Jensen as a "princess" would look like. I am with you about the white shirts. I have a kink for white unbuttoned shirt too ^^^
Thanks a lot for the great comment about my work evil ♥
(Will we have some new manips of S&L soon? ^o^ )

Date: 2011-02-25 01:00 am (UTC)The second one was just a speed painting I did to have an idea of what Jensen as a "princess" would look like but apparently, it seems to be as successful as the main art ^^

Date: 2011-02-24 12:45 pm (UTC)You have done it again, my sweet!
Your work is divine.
You've captured the romance of these fables so eloquently and the fairytale feel beautifully.
Now where were THESE fairy-tales when I was growing up? Pfft, I was stuck with girl/boy ones. LOL
Lovely! ♥
Thank you once again for sharing your talent with us!

Date: 2011-02-24 12:45 pm (UTC)I think ou made the right choice going for Jared as the sleepy soul in the end, sometimes Jensen is just TOO pretty. I love the photo you chose as your base for that one too.
The B&W Jensen sketch is rather lovely, I like that it wasn't 'finished' so we still have the brush-strokes.
Not sure about the last one - I really like the style but don't think that looks much like Jensen (but that is probably because you didn't really finish it off, because you usually capture Jensen's face beutifully)!

Date: 2011-02-25 01:22 am (UTC)I agree, Jensen is just too pretty and it would have been too "obvious". Having a big princess like Jared was much more fun to draw anyway ^^
The last one? I wasn't sure about it too. Jensen doesn't really look like Jensen but it's because 1) of the reference photo I used (Jensen looks like a kid in it!!) and 2) because it was just a draft, I didn't bother with details or even with likeness as usual. It was much more "Ok, that will do, all I need is the two guys and the castle at the back!!". I wasn't even supposed to post it. It's a friend who told me to post everything I had as a part of my "technical post" XD
Thanks a lot for the comment about my art ♥
