Fan arts: J2_everafter Arts - Sleeping Beauty

What's the concept?
My arts for the
j2_everafter challenge inspired by Sleeping Beauty. It's schmoopy as hell but as it's an adaptation of the Disney's movie it had to be schmoopy, I guess!!
THE ARTS

(Click on the title of the pictures to full size)
Warnings: Jared bare-chested on the first picture, Jensen bare-chested on the second, boys almost kissing on the third. I let you judge if it's SFW or not!
1) Sleeping Beauty (main art)
Where Jared is a "damsel in distress"with big muscles awaken by a kiss from his prince charming, Jensen.
~ ~
2) 100 years (B&W sketch)
B&W sketch: Where Jensen is a prince waiting for Jared to wake him up.
3) Happily ever afters (color sketch)
Where Jared and Jensen will live happily ever after(in a pinkinsh castle)

I don't understand. Why are there arts with Jared as the "Sleeping Beauty" and arts with Jensen as the "Sleeping Beauty"? ಠ_ಠ
It's because I really couldn't make up my mind. I knew when I signed up for this
j2_everafter challenge that I absolutely wanted to grab Sleeping Beauty as a prompt but it took me time to figure out who was going to "play the role" of Aurora. I finally decided that it would be Jared, that's why only Art#1 is a finished, elaborate, CG painting, in full colors with all the details. Arts n#2 and n#3 on the other hand are just sketches/speed-paintings I did to give me an idea. Jensen as the "cute little blonde prince" waiting for Jared didn't really appeal to me so Arts #2 and 3 never passed the stages of drafts.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE (and a little bit of Photoshop rambling)
ART 1
- Photoshop CS
- Painter Essential 3
An inspiration for this one?
Absolutely. The series of photos taken by Annie Leibovitz for her Disney Fairy Tales series and more particularly the one featuring Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. I loved the set, the general atmosphere and Zach's blue velvet prince outfit so I used it as an inspiration for my main Sleeping Beauty art.

Paint over?
I painted over a part of the set because I was lacking time and certainly also because the perspective of drawing 25 roses scared the hell out of me.
The letter "J" on the pillow comes from an illumination manuscript.

Reference pictures: Jared.
ART 2
- Photoshop CS
- Photography: the spinning wheel, the Kodak film frame and the set
- Non original work: Painting by Louys Aernoutsz Elsevier
Paint over?
I didn't paint over, I used directly photographies for the spinning wheel and the set (by using layers set to "Soft Light" and "Overlay" with an opacity of approximately 30%). This picture was basically my first draft for this project that's why I didn't bother to draw the set or even go for a paint over. I just needed to see roughly what the finished illustration would look like (I didn't even draw Jared!). I speed-painted Jensen using only black and white. This technique that I already used for instance in one my Dean/Castiel arts, Bloodplay, and in Life made me this way (an hilarious prompt for
spn_kink_art inspired by Lady Gaga) gives me the possibility to work very fast (4-5 hours per art), directly in Photoshop, without the need to pay too much attention to tiny details or to draw a detailed pencil sketch.

Reference picture: Jensen
ART 3
- Graphite on paper
- Photoshop CS
- Painter Essential 3
Reference pictures: Jensen, Jared
The castle you can see at the back comes from a personal photo taken...at Disney Land Tokyo
Voilà! I hope you enjoyed my version of Sleeping Beauty.
See you soon.
PS: I am VERY late concerning comments you left me in this account. It also includes comments at
hoodie_time and
spn_kink_art comms. I am SORRY!! (and I am working on it!!)

Date: 2011-02-25 02:30 am (UTC)It drove me nuts! One week before the posting date I was still working on the final illustration wondering if I would be able to make it for the 27th of Feb ^^;; At the end I was like "Ok, they are both gonna be the princess, I am going to put them in the same bed and there will be no prince!!" XD
Finally I could make up my mind but I posted the sketches I had in my HD too.
Thanks a lot for the great comment about my work ♥
Glad you enjoyed it so much ♥

I'm really loving the black and white speed painting technique you've been playing with.
Thank you! I am going to use it a lot for my R+J prompt :D

Date: 2011-02-26 04:37 pm (UTC)1. For some reason I can't open the link to the first pic full-view. It directs me to a blocked-login.jpg T-T But from the smaller version I can tell with no doubt that it is by far THE most beautiful J2 pic I've ever seen! It's very realistic and detailed! The textures, the lighting, the background, everything about this is sofa king perfect! Man, I just joined D/C Ever After for the 'Enchanted' prompt and there's a scene almost exactly like this that I'm drawing (only with Dean and Cas). When I look at this and then I look at my drawing, it's like comparing the highest level of Heaven and the lowest point of earth, LOL! Oh God it will be so embarrassing I feel like throwing that drawing away! T-T
2. Ah! The link doesn't work for me too T-T Luckily there's a smaller version of this too! ^^ Ah Jensen, so young and pretty and sexy :-P``` Nice touch with the rose too! ♥
3. Yay! This link worked for me! ^^ ♥ Awwww the kiss is so sweet! And whoaaa you drew the F'in castle, brick by brick! *_* Holy crap, the details!
Amazing work yet again!! ^^ ♥ ♥ ♥

Date: 2011-02-28 04:56 am (UTC)I hosted my arts at Megaupload, you just have to Dl the file:

I don't know what's happening with Imageshack lately. A lot of people can't see my arts. I thought that they were restricting the access outside USA but Eviltwin who lives in the UK could see my drawings so I don't understand :/ Anyway...
1. You joined D/C everafters?!! That's awesome!! I am SO looking forward to seeing what you are going to post with Enchanted! I was about to grab this one but finally I went for Beauty Sleeping instead.
When I look at this and then I look at my drawing, it's like comparing the highest level of Heaven and the lowest point of earth
NO NO NO NO, NO, NO You art is just fantastic, you have nothing to be ashamed of!! Do you know that with Euclase you are seen as the best D/C artist? No? You didn't? Now, you know! ^o^
2. I love drawing roses covert in blood, I must have watched the video of Guns n' Roses' November Rain too many times ^^;;
3. It's "Sleeping Beauty". Even if this castle is ridiculous (it's pink!!!), "Sleeping Beauty" without it would not have really been "Sleeping beauty", right?!! ^o^ The 3rd pic is ULTRA schmoopy but as I love schmoop, it's not a problem!!
Thanks A LOT for the super feedback about my work ♥
Good luck on your next projects ^o^

Date: 2011-03-26 07:42 pm (UTC)Once again, thanks a lot for the very detailed comment about my post ♥
Sleeping beauty: I have a thing for velvet and I thought that Jensen with this blue velvet outfit would be just perfect (and very sexy too). He looks so much better than Efron. ^^ The bed post drove me nuts but also all the embroideries on Jensen's doublet. I wanted to drop and to simplify the pix but I finally (as usual) I drew what I had in mind with A LOT of details.
100 years: This one was a draft. I am surprised that so many people loved it because basically, it was just a draft. I love the pose I gave him but the trouble was: "With a pose like this one, how am I gonna draw Jared". It would have been too difficult because he would have either hidden Jensen with a part of his gigantic body or we would have seen only his head because he would be on his knees in from of Jensen". I didn't regret my final drawing ^^;;;
Happily ever afters: This one is different because it's just a draft. It didn't pass the first version because I thought that Jensen didn't look like Jensen. But you are right about the style, this art looks like an illustration for a children book :)
Thanks a lot for the great comment about my art ♥
