I LOVE working in B&W (ok, it's easier but not only for that ^^;;) I couldn't imagine such a story drawn in colors. I thought that B&W fitted better for the tone and the atmosphere of such a prompt. For the lighting, I looked at screen shots from old movies like Casablanca to obtain the same kind of shading.
